Because in all my pictures, I always appear derpy or unintentionally sassy.
THIS IS WHY TRANS* PEOPLE SHOULD JUST JOIN QUIDDITCH!
- Gender Identity determines the gender ratio of players on the pitch.
- Hate speech of any sort is banned (fouls will be given, players can be banned)
- QUIDDITCH
I wanted to do Quidditch but the teams never got formed at my school as far as I know.
Also, why a gender ratio at all? What do nonbinary people do? What do transitioning people do if it throws off the ratio? I’d probably be just as pissed off. I want more completely gender-neutral athletic opportunities. Like if I’d known more about lacrosse I would’ve started a neutral lacrosse. Which would have been hard since men’s and women’s are virtually different sports, but I really, really wanted to keep playing.
I was looking at the Boston marathon qualifying times since I think my aunt and maybe my dad want to go back in a couple years, and I couldn’t even find an FAQ about what trans people should do, if it’s hormone-based or if it’s based on some ID you send in or what it’s even based on. I know it doesn’t matter and I really should just push myself to do the men’s times since those are half-hour shorter, but it was frustrating as hell to not even be able to look up something that freaking simple.
I do kind of wonder about roller derby rules sometimes too, since the official policy for the WFTDA is that players simply need to have hormones falling in a “typically female” range. I’ve heard that locally trans guys end up transferring to the newer men’s team but I wonder if that would matter if your hormones are not in a “typically male” range…?
If there’s no quidditch where you are, found a team. It’s not all that hard to get things started, and there are people in the forums and such who would be able to help.
There is a gender ratio because this is a co-ed sport, not a “we happen to have team entirely of guys and we’re going to plow through a team with only a few guys” sport. And that has been an issue. My team had a very hard time getting guys for a while, and it was just our seeker/beater, captain, another beater, a chaser, and myself. It’s a matter of fairness in a full-contact sport that has no padding.
I don’t understand what you mean about transitioning people throwing off the ratio. The ratio only has to do with the number of people on the pitch at any given time. And the gender identity determines which part of the ratio you contribute to. As for nonbinary people, the issue has yet to come up, but I’m sure the Quidditch community would be willing to make changes to accomodate.
Roller Derby would be fun. The team and I were thinking of starting a co-ed Roller Derby thing… except also on brooms because we were all really hyper when discussing this, and it seemed like a GREAT idea at the time.

Sassy Queer Quidditch Gabe.
Because the picture was awesome and showed a great game… until they caught me standing in the background.
All of these people are amazing and off the top of my head that’s who I think of when it comes to “who should go”.
It is not my opinion but a reasonable observation that the ICBA does not in any way attack, contradict, go against, or compete with the IQA. This might be noted in the fact that there are IQA official teams in the ICBA at the current time, and many of them played at World Cup V.
Now for my opinion: There does not need to be controversy. There do not need to be sides. It simply is.
SHSU Quidditch now has a tumblr! We’re still getting things up-and-running, so please bear with us!
TEAM TUMBLR!!
SHSU Quidditch will be having its first practice of the semester tonight at 6, on Upper Pritchet Field. So pretty much same-time-same-place as last semester. I’m super excited.
Also we’re having an informational meeting tomorrow in the LSC at 6:30 for any bearkats who may follow me who aren’t on the team yet. Yeah. You should go. We’re awesome people.

Commissioner of the best sport in existence, ladies and gentlemen and others.
Also the only co-ed sport I’m aware of that uses gender identity rather than biological sex as the determination for the enforced gender ratio. Beautiful.
ed: Also, since it’s not obvious from my page, I’m Gabe, beater/sometimes chaser/one time seeker/officer from SHSU Quidditch.
